Waiheke Island

Established in the 1990’s by Lebanese, Croatian and English winemakers, the Auckland region is one of the oldest wine regions in New Zealand.

Waiheke is a haven of beautiful vineyards, olive groves and beaches, all just a 40-minute ferry ride from downtown Auckland. Waiheke Island produces some of the finest reds in the country. Intense syrah and bold cabernet blends grown exceptionally well in the Waiheke coastal terrain.

Goldie Estate is home to rolling vineyards, a historic Cellar Door and fantastic views overlooking Putiki Bay. It is Waiheke’s pioneering vineyard and have a long history of producing iconic, award-winning wines.  It is also home to the University of Auckland’s Wine Science Centre.

 

 

Waiheke Island Wineries Tour

9.00am – 5.15pm

9.00am Meet tour guide outside Sir Owen G Glenn Building

9.15am Coach from outside Sir Owen G Glenn Building to Auckland Ferry Terminal.

10.00am Ferry from Auckland to Waiheke Island. Wine tasting and 2 course lunch at Mudbrick Vineyard. Wine tasting at Cable Bay Vineyards and wine tasting at Goldie Estate.

4.30pm Ferry to Auckland.

5.15pm Approximate arrival time at Auckland Ferry Terminal.

Tiritiri Matangi Island

Tiritiri Matangi Island Guided Walking Tour

Explore lush forests and rugged coastline, encounter rare native birds and soak up the island’s history on this guided walking tour of New Zealand’s oldest island sanctuaries. Tiritiri Matangi is a breathtaking 1 and a half hour ferry ride from Auckland’s CBD. 8.15 am Coach from outside Sir Owen G Glenn Building to Auckland Ferry Terminal

9.00 am Ferry from Auckland to Tiritiri Matangi Island. 90-minute guided tour on Tiritiri Matangi Island. Free time for lunch and further exploration of the island.

2.40 pm Ferry to Auckland.

4.00 pm approximate arrival time at Auckland Ferry Terminal.    Participants to make their own way to their accommodations.

Tāmaki Makaurau

Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland is a multi-cultural urban oasis of food, music, arts and culture. It’s where sparkling waters and lush landscapes meet city sophistication. The Auckland Isthmus has seen a millennium of Maori occupation and use. Tāmaki Makau rau or ‘Tamaki-the bride sought by a hundred suitors’ is the ancestral name for the Auckland
Isthmus.

Historical and Cultural Tour of Tāmaki Makaurau

9.00am – 5.30pm

Explore the city’s rich history and vibrant arts scene hassle-free with our expert guides. This tour includes an expert guide, coach transport, entry to Auckland Museum, a one-hour guided tour of Auckland Museum, casual platter style lunch including one glass of wine or beer or non-alcoholic drink per person and a guided tour of the exhibition at Auckland Art Gallery.

Tour of Tāmaki Makaurau Itinerary

8.45 am Meet tour guide outside Sir Owen G Glenn Building.

9.00 am Guided walk around the University of Auckland campus site and historic area around the university. Discover the history beneath our feet with an art, architecture and history tour of central Auckland. Beginning with a discussion of the Māori settlement associated with Te Horotiu Pa through to the colonial settlement of Auckland, structures and artefacts investigated include the 19th century Albert Barracks, Waipapa Marae and the Fale Pasifika as well as the early subdivision of residential housing for early merchants and entrepreneurs. Walk through Albert Park and through Old Government House and its gardens to Edward Rumsey’s High Court and behind it, the site of New Zealand’s first parliament.

11.00 am board a coach bound for Auckland Museum.

11.15 am Guided tour of some of the key collections at the Auckland Museum.

12.15 pm Free time at the Auckland Museum.

1.00 pm Casual platter style lunch, including one glass of wine or beer or non-alcoholic drink per person, at a local restaurant.

2.15 pm board the coach again and visit Takaparawha (Bastion Point) where we will investigate this contested site and look at the memorial to Michael Joseph Savage built on defences against the threat of Russian invasion.

3.15 pm Visit Auckland Art Gallery including a guided tour of a current exhibition.

4.15 pm Walk to Aotea Centre, then down Queen Street, past Civic, Smith & Caughey, AEPB building to Te Komititanga Square.

5.30 pm approximate time the tour ends at Britomart. Participants to make their own way to their accommodations.
